About the Piece:
My senior year of high school, I was approached by my band director, Russ Kramer, who asked me to write an opener for our upcoming concert. Prelude and Fanfare (2011) represents my first attempt at writing for concert band. I wrote the piece to exactly match our band’s available instrumentation. As such, there are 9 independent percussion parts, only one part each for oboe and bassoon, and a complete lack of parts for contrabass instruments.
